Gardening Australia came to my Nursery and Garden

My Experience Of Having My Garden and Nursery Featured on ABC Gardening Australia

Imagine this: your garden, your pride and joy, featured on "Gardening Australia." For many gardening enthusiasts like me, it's the stuff of dreams and or nightmares. This iconic TV show has been inspiring green thumbs across Australia for years, and getting my garden showcased felt like winning the lottery but at the same time terrifying. Here’s what it was actually like to have my garden in the spotlight.

Getting the Call

It all started with a Researcher contacting me to see if I might be interested in finding out more about the opportunity. I sent in some photos and descriptions of my garden and nursery, highlighting what made them unique. Then, the thrilling part was finding out Gardening Australia was interested in filming in my garden and nursery.

Prepping for the Big Day

Once I got the date of filming, it was time to roll up my sleeves. The Gardening Australia team worked with me to plan the episode, deciding which plants to highlight in the garden and what propagation techniques to feature. We spent months sprucing things up—finishing off a few wish list projects, pruning, deadheading, mulching, cleaning and making sure everything was as picture-perfect as possible in the time we had.

Lights, Camera, Action!

Filming day was a mix of excitement and nerves. The crew arrived early with all their gear: cameras, microphones, lights and other technical equipment. This was my first taste of TV production, but the crew’s professionalism quickly put me at ease. The host, Hannah Moloney, was lovely and genuinely interested in my garden, after a while making it feel more like a chat than a formal interview.

Filming took place over two days as the crew captured every angle, close-ups of my favorite plants, and wide shots including drone shots of the garden. There were multiple takes to get everything just right. I shared my passion and knowledge, talking about what inspired my garden, my plant choices, and some techniques I used.

Waiting for the Air Date

After filming wrapped up, it was a long waiting game. The footage had to go through editing to turn hours of film into a neat, engaging segment. Finally, a date was set for airing which is Friday November 8th 2024 at 7:30 pm. So I'm holding on tight as it is not far away.
